8 April 2024: Evidence-Based Medicine Symposium in Copenhagen

Presentation Jorien

On Monday 8 April, Cochrane Denmark and the Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine Odense hosted the Danish Evidence-Based Medicine network Symposium in Copenhagen.
Jorien Laermans, who is one of our coordinators and a researcher at the Centre for Evidence-Based Practice of the Belgian Red Cross, gave a presentation on knowledge translation. She shared why disseminating evidence is important, what aspects are essential for successful dissemination, and demonstrated these aspects with examples.

The other speakers were:

  • Monica Hultcranz, who talked about Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development, and Evaluation (GRADE) for assessing and communicating evidence, and how GRADE has helped to shape and develop Evidence-Based Medicine;
  • Harald Herkner, who showed that many patients in clinical practice are not represented in clinical trials, and demonstrated how clinical trials are designed on a continuum ranging from an explanatory attitude to a more pragmatic attitude.

The interesting discussions were continued and new connections were formed during the subsequent dinner.
Thank you very much to the organisers for the invitation and to all participants for the great interactions!
