Becoming a Cochrane volunteer

Picture of volunteers

Did you know that not only researchers and health professionals can voluntarily get involved in Cochrane? If you are a patient, their family member or carer, or if you are multilingual, you can make a difference to global health.

Here are some ways to get involved, even if you have a full schedule already:

  • Take on a research task via Cochrane Engage
On this platform, you can find a list of tasks that have been posted by others. Some are looking for people with lived experiences to provide input (patient and public tasks), others want to find people who can help doing translation work, or are seeking people to join their author team.
You can also post your own tasks on the platform.
  • Become a citizen scientist on Cochrane Crowd
On this platform, you can help categorise and summarise evidence. Anyone can join, even without any experience. When you first sign up, you can do introductory tasks. Each task is supported by a brief training module that will tell you what you need to know. As you progress, you will ‘unlock’ new tasks.
  • Help translate Cochrane evidence
Cochrane volunteers help translate the content of Cochrane reviews, such as plain language summaries and abstracts, and key webpages. If you have some language skills, you can therefore help break the language barrier to informed health decisions. Learn more about how you can contribute here.

If you want to join Cochrane Engage or Cochrane Crowd, you will need to create a free Cochrane account.

At Cochrane First Aid, we welcome anyone with an interest in producing, summarizing, translating or disseminating evidence on first aid. Feel free to send us an email (cochrane.firstaid@gmail.com) if you want to become an active contributor. We would love to hear from you.

We look forward to welcoming you to the Cochrane community!
