From 4 to 6 September, the annual
Our Director Emmy De Buck, who is also the Director of the of the Belgian Red Cross, held two oral presentations:
- Her first presentation revolved around the importance of using consensus methods and involving end users to develop evidence-based materials when evidence is scarce. In this presentation, Emmy discussed the experiences of the Belgian Red Cross with the development of materials to train children in helping and supporting their friend, classmate or teammate who may be going through a difficult time or experiencing mental health problems. Given that only (very) low-certainty evidence was obtained, a consensus method was developed to collect input on good practices from a broad group of stakeholders.
- In her second presentation, Emmy talked about lessons learned from the development of an evidence-based guideline aimed at Belgian Red Cross volunteers who offer psychosocial support. She highlighted the necessity of building trust by engaging evidence users early on and involving them throughout the whole process of developing evidence-based guidelines.
In addition, the colloquium was a unique opportunity for Emmy to meet and engage with other ‘Cochranians’, including representatives from other Cochrane fields in real life, resulting in several inspiring meetings and exchanges about future plans and activities.
