World First Aid Day 2023

WFAD 2023

Since 2000, the second Saturday of September has been designated as World First Aid Day, with the aim of raising public awareness of the importance of first aid, both as an act of humanitarian empowerment and as a key component of a wider resilience approach. Our collaborating centre, the Global First Aid Reference Centre (GFARC) of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, is in charge of coordinating this event and providing resources to national Red Cross Societies.

This year, World First Aid Day was held on September 9 with the theme: "First Aid in the Digital World". As we fully understand here at Cochrane First Aid, digital technology can play a huge role in making first aid knowledge accessible to all. More information about World First Aid Day is available on this website.

This year's theme perfectly aligns with a study that's currently ongoing at our iniating centre, the Centre for Evidence-Based Practice of Belgian Red Cross, on the impact of first aid training through blended learning in adult laypeople in Rwanda. The blended learning approach combines self-study using a mobile application with in-person training. Read more about the study here.
