8 May is World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, a global day to celebrate the uniqueness and unity of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
For us at Cochrane First Aid, it is the perfect opportunity to highlight our connections with the Belgian Red Cross and the Global First Aid Reference Centre (GFARC) of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC):
Its mission consists of three parts, namely to defend the interests of vulnerable people both at home and abroad, to be proactive in emergency management, promoting self-reliance and organising blood supplies, and to care for vulnerable individuals. In all their activities, they rely heavily on the dedication of volunteers. First aid training of laypeople is one of its key activities, and the Belgian Red Cross is recognized worldwide as a pioneer in the development of first aid guidelines and materials according to the principles of Evidence-Based Practice.
is our funder and host institution.
Hosted by the French Red Cross, this IFRC 'centre of excellence' works closely with 192 National Societies to facilitate knowledge sharing among them and to promote high-quality first aid education at the global level, the implementation of evidence-based approaches and the conduct of research in the field of first aid.
is our collaborating centre.
